About the Opportunity

BNP Paribas Group currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Data Management Specialist to join our team on a full-time basis. Though we are currently working remotely, the successful candidate will be expected to be based within or relocate to the province of Quebec. The job position is based in Montreal

The Enterprise Data Management Department (EDM) was created in 2015 to setup, drive and continuously improve the way data is handled throughout the organization in the U.S. under the leadership of the CIB/IP Chief Data Officer. The EDM department provides support to all other units within it (Data Governance, Data Management, and Data Quality). 

The Data Management Team is part of the overall Enterprise Data Management program, which looks to satisfy the requirements related to principles for effective enterprise data aggregation and reporting, and is intended to support evolving regulatory requirements. This role will report to the Data Management Lead and will be responsible for supporting the gathering of Metadata and the maintenance of documented information. This may involve participation to setup, review, and quality control, with governance and validation processes about data lineages, business glossaries and data dictionaries. 

With varying levels of responsibility and autonomy, some of your key responsibilities in this position will include:

  • Maintaining information on the data used and document its journey and usage 
  • Acting as support and working on ad hoc assignments such as quantitative analysis, data consolidation and crunching, driving specific parts of the project end to end, and preparing recommendations 
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge on the BCBS239 guidance as well as the RaDAR program implementation so as to constantly adjust, as relevant, your activities to the approach promoted by the Group 
  • Improving, deploying and onboarding new domains such as Finance, Risk, Treasury, and Operations across the organization in the current Metadata framework 
  • Attending project meetings, preparing meeting notes and distributing to identified stakeholders 
  • Producing project reports - request, collect, analyze, query, verify consistency and completeness and integrating weekly status reports from project work streams such as CCAR or Finance Regulatory Reporting 
  • Writing and reviewing standards, procedures or other documentations to record rule analysis and impact assessment, flow charts, RACI analysis and other diagnostic documentation as well as business requirements and other design documents

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a Bachelors degree in either Business Administration or Computer Science, along with 5-7 years of experience as a business analyst, preferably with a focus on Metadata or data management related undertakings in IT or a data organization. Ideally, you also have 3 years of experience working in a Metadata/Enterprise Data Management team. An understanding or knowledge of the financial industry, investment banking or asset management, along with knowledge of data management architecture and data governance principles would be considered a strong asset. The ability to speak French would be an asset, but not required. 

Knowledge of other programs or tools that would be assets to the role would be: Metadata tools such as Ab Initio, Collibra, Informatica, data visualization tools such as Power BI, OBIEE, and database design and querying such as SQL, Oracle Db. 

As our ideal candidate, you'll join us with excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. You are ambitious with a strong academic background, with the ability to think analytically and abstractly to form a problem statement. You have great attention to detail, with the willingness and ability to collaborate with distributed multinational and multicultural teams. In addition, you are open to challenges, with the flexibility to adapt to changing environments, and the ability to demonstrate a strong sense of critical thinking. Strong Microsoft Office skills are required for this position, while knowledge of Python or R, and HDFS and tech stack would be strong assets.
